Tesoro = Treasure

The Prospectors Shop and Tesoro Electronics have been associated since 1983. The Prospectors Shop established its dealerships in 1981. We have been in continuous operation since that time as a multi-line, metal detector dealer. The owners are John & Anita London of Amarillo, Texas.

Metal or Mineral

In those early years, mineralized ground was the "Big" enemy of detector users. The operators had to either hunt in all metal and dig all targets, or use discrimination and lose a lot of depth. Many metal detector users became so frustrated that they quit the hobby.

Mineral balance

A few companies were successfully working on "motion" ground balancing circuits and the future looked bright. Detectorists were finding coins at unheard of depths. The only real problem was the weight and sweep speed of those detectors. They were heavy and required a very fast sweep speed, which meant short operating times and sore arms.

Enter Tesoro

A young company with a different look and new ideas entered the field. Tesoro's metal detectors weighed less, had better ground control and a lifetime warranty. Their emphasis was on performance, not bells, whistles, or useless frills. Tesoro's theme was and is: "Tesoro does it in the dirt!"

Detector Tests

It was common for The Prospectors Shops owners to have five or six different detector types on their camping/prospecting trips. Those trips were always in areas of high mineralization. Colorado, Montana, Arizona and New Mexico were typical test areas for the Londons. If a detector would perform well in those places, then it would surely out-perform other machines in low mineral areas. Tesoro's metal detectors have consistently out-performed other competing types of metal detectors, in "hot" ground.

Tesoro Heavyweights

Shown below are the "Tesoro" heavy hitters. These metal detectors will all perform a variety of tasks including gold nugget prospecting, cache and relic hunting as well as coin shooting. The "preset" or automatic detectors are not included on this page. We will provide a link to another page for those detector types.
